The British drama first aired in the U.S. as a part of “Masterpiece Classics” in , but what many fans don’t know is that the Emmy-winning show was inspired from a book published in Situated just to the west of Banbury, Wroxton Abbey is a fine Jacobean mansion which was built on the foundations of a 13th-century Augustinian priory. The original Abbey fell into disrepair following Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries in the s and was replaced with the present building by William Pope in the early 17th century.

Churches Church of England. Wroxton is recorded as having a church in , but the present Church of England parish church of All Saints is early 14th century. A Perpendicular Gothic clerestory and porch were added early in the 15th century. The west tower was designed by Sanderson Miller and in , paid for by Lord North, who owned Wroxton Abbey. All Saints' is a Grade II* listed building.
